Recent studies show that increased protein does not increase blood sugar as only 50% is converted to glucose, but increase insulin response. It also reduces craving for food and controls body weight. A protein intake of 0.8-1 gm per kg of body weight is often recommended for people with diabetes and kidney diseases, while for other diabetic patients should not reduce protein intake below 1 g/kg of body weight.
